Puzzle #6: Off the Crossbar

 Hi folks!


We've got a themeless puzzle today of medium-hard difficulty. The seed entry for this puzzle is one of my favorite phenomena in sports, and I hope it's interesting even to those solvers who don't love sports. I know you're out there--I see you, I hear you, and I am committed to continuing to ignore your cries to stop adding more sports to my puzzles. Much love.

    yes! I too wouldn't mind less OTT and ORR and ILIE, but there's so much room for more sports in puzzles!

      Totally agree--OTT and ORR are bad because they're bad fill, not because they're sports. But I think many solvers need to see more GOOD sports entries to get comfortable with the idea sports in a puzzle can be fun.

Puzzle #93: I'm Only One Man (with Norah Sharpe)

 Hi gang, Back with a new themeless after a little hiatus. The puzzle work continues apace! I'm part of a lovely leadership team over at Lil AVC X, along with Rafa Musa, Olivia Mitra Framke, and Sally Hoelscher. We recently finished putting together the team of editors for 2024, which includes Norah Sharpe (under her government name)! This puzzle, like every collaboration with Norah , was a joy to make. Norah says, "The structure of this one was inspired by some of the gridwork that Brian Thomas has been up to lately (see this one and this one ). My favorite clues are 16A, 39A, and 51D.
